I had a busy, busy weekend. Playing in a golf tournament plus entertaining
our daughter, son-in-law, and "cutest baby in the world" grandson who
were up for the Grand Regatta Crew Races on the Grand River. Summer is
such a great time for fun & family events.
On Saturday night, we were hot and tired. A trip to the local ice cream store was mentioned and
we all headed out to indulge ourselves. We got our treats, sat around in the
shade eating them, and then headed back home to change for the golf awards dinner.
When getting ready to go to the golf course, I realized I didn't have my money clip.
It was in the pocket of my shorts, and now it wasn't. We searched the house, the car, and
Then we went back to the ice cream store to see if it was there anywhere. No luck.
I was feeling pretty upset because all my credit cards, my driver's license, my Sentri-lock key,
would all have to be replaced. Now, tonite. No golf awards dinner.
( you can supply your own choice words here !#$# @%&*() *^%#$# $%^%^)
We went back home to look one more time.
As soon as we got home, the doorbell rang, and my heart lifted. When I opened it, an
older man and a young boy about 8-9 years old were standing on my step. They asked
if I was Terry Westbrook and I said yes. The young boy had found my money clip by the
chair I had been sitting in at the ice cream place and he handed it over to me.
He quickly told me, " I didn't look to see how much money there was!" I had about $200
dollars but that wasn't my main concern. The ID and credit cards would have been much more
difficult to replace. I immediately gave him a generous cash reward for returning my money clip.
And then I asked his name. Ian McCoy, he said, with a smile. I smiled back, shook his
hand, and said: " Thanks a lot, Ian. You are MY HERO ."
His grandfather agreed with me. He said Ian was his hero also. Ian beamed.
The McCoys couldn't find a phone number to call, so they drove over to my home to return my
money clip to me. There are honest, kind people in this world and Ian McCoy is one of them.
I am glad I got to meet him.
