I suppose you have heard the old maxim " all real estate is local". Well, the
same goes for your Real Estate Agent. They are local people who live in
your community. They work in your community. They send their kids to the
same schools your kids go to. They volunteer, they go to church. They
probably know your community better than anybody. I always joked that
I could get a job as a taxi driver in my retirement, I know the streets
and locales of Grand Rapids so well.
I want you to realize that the BIG BOX STORE concept doesn't work at the
hyper-local level. The national real estate web sites like Trulia and Zillow
are not local experts. In fact Zillow's Zestimates are frequently far off base
and they are old information. These sites don't try to come into your city and
set up shop. They offer agents and real estate companies that are already
established free enticements. WHY?? Because the local Realtor knows the area,
the prices, the schools, the local builders, and the local neighborhoods.
They know their business.
Real Estate Agents are one of the only sectors of the economy left
that is paid on commission only. This means your real estate agent is an
independent contractor. He doesn't get paid when he gets that listing that
he competed with 3 other agents to list.
He/she doesn't get paid when he holds open houses. He doesn't get
reimbursed for ads, photos, signs, or business expenses. Nobody pays
him to show homes or blog about local real estate information.
He/she only gets paid when your home closes. When everything is finalized
and every detail has been checked off.
So next time you need a real estate expert:
Will you list your home yourself on a paid website?
Will you list your home, your biggest investment, with your cousin's boyfriend?
Will you call the local Realtor who is the expert in your neighborhood ?
The same guy who buys his groceries from your store, gets his
plumbing repaired by your company, gets his car fixed at your shop?
