The signs are up but no dirt has been turned or bunnies displaced yet.
The newest planned development for Cascade Township, Michigan is
going to have Brownstone Architecture, Classic English Cottage &
Garden influence combined with "green" building standards and energy
efficient choices at Turnburry of Cascade should make this development
environment friendly.
Located at the southwest corner of Burton Street and Kraft Avenue, it will
be near the bike path and just behind the Meijer store on 28th Street and
Kraft Avenue. Forest Hills Public Schools will be the school district serving
this new residential area. The latest publicity article says they plan to
construct 106 total units, consisting of 90 Brownstone condo homes and
16 cottage condos.
The cottages will start at $350,00 while the Brownstones will start
at $240,000.
Turnburry's vertical architecture will leave almost 70% of the site to be
designated open space to create an open feeling and encourage pedestrian
activity and social interaction.
We stopped out and took a few before pictures. We will keep you updated on
the latest developments, as we drive by frequently.

HI Terry -
I like the idea of 70% open space! I looked at the website - this looks like a very nice development and I love the fact that they will be building green and energy efficient homes.
What do you think the chances are they will add solar hot water to these homes?
Are these lots exclusive to a single builder? What green building standard are you using?
Green Home Buyer:
Yes, these lots are exclusive to the builder Johnson-Newhof. This is excerpted from their website:
"Builder, Johnson-Newhof, was one of five statewide winners of the Energy division's Five Star Home designation. The first builder in Grand Rapids to receive this award, they continue to lead the industry by focusing on eco/environmentally friendly construction projects."
The green building advantages are listed on their website here:

We personally sold one of their single family residential homes several years ago. At that time they were bleeding edge on environmental concerns and green building. It should be interesting to see what they incorporate into this project.
Mary:
It isn't on their list specifically, but that doesn't mean it might not be included.
Thanks for commenting.
What is the market like where you are? We are not seeing many new developments these days!
Jean: It is not as active here as we would like to see but the market is moving along OK. I do have time for more buyers.
